Louis Vuitton's Damier Carbone Keepall

Louis Vuitton is always in the forefront of fashion’s evolution. They’ve shown us their interest for high-tech materials when they released the lightweight carbon fiber BMW i8 Luggage Set in February. Expanding it a bit further and bringing carbon into mainstream fashion, the French fashion house has now released the Damier Carbone Keepall Bandoulière.

The carbon version of the Damier Keepall Bandoulière features new functional details in addition to coming in a larger size. The lightweight and stretchy canvas, coated with carbon fiber has a high-degree of tolerance to chemicals and temperature as well as a low thermal expansion.

Riccardo Tisci Of Givenchy’s Nike Air Force 1 RT Collection

Givenchy’s creative director, Riccardo Tisci has produced a special edition collection of Nikes. Collection consists of 4 pairs of sneakers based on one of shoemakers well known styles, the Nike 1.

The sneakers named Nike RT will see its launch in two separate dates – a release of white collection on March 1 and black on April 1. Though the collaboration might surprise some in the fashion world, Tisci is in fact known to borrow inspirations from streetwear for Givenchy’s haute-couture creations.

In addition to normal hi and low-top sneakers, collection includes mid-calf and knee-high style shoes with lots of design detail in black, yellow, orange and blue colors. Nike swoosh on shoes are in brown. The four different styles are named Nike RT Air Force 1 Lo, Nike RT Air Force 1 Mid, Nike RT Air Force 1 Hi, and the Nike RT Air Force 1 Boot.

“The shoe is universal yet somehow very personal,” says Tisci. “I travel all over the world, and I see people wearing the Air Force 1, and they wear it in so many different ways.

And so I was thinking, what is the essence of the Air Force 1? And how do I take that essence and make my own statement? For me the Air Force 1 is not about gender, it’s not about a particular city, nor is it about a certain style. The community decides. It’s democratic. It’s love.”

Palme d’Ore by Chopard - Synonymous with Talent and Recognition

Last month at Baselworld, Chopard introduced us to the first ever luxury watch made from Fairmined Gold. Jewelry maker is expanding their commitment to sustainable luxury by turning their focus to the entertainment industry. Chopard, creator of Palme d’Or for Cannes Film Festival since 1998 has announced this year’s winner will receive the first ever Fairmined Palme d’Or, made from “Fairmined” certified gold.

Fairmined gold is ethically mined gold where suppliers need to demonstrate their commitment to responsible social and environmental practices. Improved labor conditions including better pay and eco-friendly mining are some of the responsibilities.

Seeds for eco-friendly, sustainable luxury were sown during last year’s Cannes Festival. Chopard teamed up with Livia Firth (actor Colin Firth’s wife), founder of the Green Carpet Challenge and creative director of Eco-Age to launch ‘The Journey to Sustainable Luxury’. Successful collaboration led to Chopard launching the Carpet Haute Joaillerie collection, made entirely from Fairmined gold. This year’s Oscar winner Cate Blanchett is a huge admirer of the collection, and wore a pair of diamond rings to the Golden Globes.

“We are so excited about this ground breaking world first. Chopard is not only bringing Fairmined gold to the very core of cinema and one of the biggest red carpet festivals in the world, but cementing it into the very heart of the festival – the Palm d’Or – is incredibly exciting. Once again Chopard has proved that with its Journey to Sustainable Luxury, they are at the forefront of sustainable luxury,” said Livia Firth.

At hand for the announcement in Paris with Livia Firth were Caroline Scheufele, co-president of Chopard; Thierry Fremaux, Delegate General of the Cannes Festival; actresses Hilary Swank and Berenice Bejo, winner of best actress at last year’s festival.

Glampers A Glamorous Camping Tent From Archiworkshop

Glampers, a South Korean company with a remote campsite in Yang-Pyeone, South Korea wanted to give their campsite a much needed upgrade and a better camping experience for customers. To get the job done they hired Seoul-based design and architecture firm Archiworkshop. Result is a smashing success – a series of stylish and comfortable camping units that are also eco-friendly.

Archiworkshop calls them “glamping for glampers”. These are not your grandfathers or your fathers camping tents. There are no worries about mosquitos, toilets or starting a fire to cook. Glampers feature custom sofa beds and toilets with walled partitions.

Their walls are decorated with artwork from Korean artists. Tents are wrapped in skins that offer water and fire resistance in addition to UV protection. They are also double layered to protect against at times harsh weather in the region. Glamping site itself offer breathtaking views of the valley, forests and the stream.

Glamping tents are available in two flexible designs. First named “stacking doughnut” is a circular structure, while the second “modular flow” is expandable. There are eight different designs on offer and Archiworkshop has named them sea, dessert, creek, mountain, cave, forest, river and city.
